An OBX Family Photography Session at Cape Hatteras National Seashore

There is something about photographing families at the Outer Banks that never gets old—and I was especially excited to return to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore for another family session this year.

The Outer Banks has become one of those places where I feel incredibly grateful to return again and again, camera in hand, documenting families who have chosen this stretch of North Carolina coastline for their vacations, traditions, and memories.

For the Fletcher family, their time at the beach was the perfect opportunity to slow down long enough to simply be together. We wandered along the shoreline, played in the sand, laughed, explored, and let the evening unfold naturally. The result was a gallery filled with the kind of images I love most: genuine connection, beautiful light, windblown hair, sandy toes, and the personalities that make a family uniquely theirs.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore is one of my favorite places for OBX family photography. The landscape gives us so much variety without ever feeling overly complicated—wide-open beaches, rolling dunes, sea oats, soft evening light, and plenty of room for kids to simply be kids.

Rather than spending the entire session asking everyone to look at the camera, I want families to actually experience their time together. We can walk, play, chase the waves, snuggle up, and let the photographs happen naturally along the way.

That combination of authentic moments and timeless portraits is what makes an Outer Banks family session so special.
